Daily tips to protect your watershed

  1. Please throw your trash away in a trash bin because it eventually will end up in the water.

  2. Keep your gas pump nozzle from dripping on the ground when filling up your vehicle gas tank

  3. If you spill a small amount of oil, put cat litter on it to soak it up before it enters the water.

  4. Improve soil health by planting cover crops, reducing or eliminating tillage of the ground, eliminating use of fertilizers, and eliminating use of herbicides or pesticides. All of this can be done in your garden or on your land depending on your goals for the property.

  5. Plant trees

  6. If you have a stream, river, lake, or other body of water on your land, have a riparian buffer.

  7. Don’t mow your grass all the way to the water’s edge

  8. Conduct prescribed burns on a regular basis depending on the goals for your property.

  9. Keep livestock out of the water. Provide alternative water sources

  10. Check for leaks into water bodies that may cause harm to the watershed
